Stop Chasing Motivation—Start Building Commitment
We hear it all the time: “I just need to find the motivation.” But the truth is, motivation is unreliable. It comes and goes—affected by stress, mood, hormones, and everything life throws your way. If you're constantly waiting to feel motivated, you'll be waiting a long time.
What I was once told - and what truly stuck with me - is this: “People spend far too much time trying to find motivation, when what they really need is commitment.”
Think about it. Life changes - work stress, poor sleep, family pressure - all of it can impact your hormone balance, spike your cortisol, and activate your fight-or-flight response. When your nervous system is overloaded, feeling “motivated” to move your body becomes even harder.
However, commitment doesn’t rely on how you feel in the moment. Commitment is showing up regardless of whether you feel like it. If you show up long enough, consistently enough, something powerful happens, it becomes routine. Your body begins to adapt, movement feels less like a chore and more like something your body craves.
This is where real change happens - not in a burst of motivation, but in the small, repeated actions you commit to daily. Over time, your body starts to favour that consistency. It grows, becomes more efficient, more resilient. Suddenly, it’s not about motivation anymore. It’s just who you are.
